Baby buys: what’s worth it and what’s not?

Baby buys: what’s worth it and what’s not?

I’ve been reflecting recently on some of the things we purchased when we had our babies and it got me thinking that some items were absolutely worth the money, and others weren’t (despite them being ‘popular’ or ‘must have’ items!).

As a new parent, I was bombarded by lots of recommendations of things I thought I ‘needed’ but actually some of this stuff turned out to be a waste of money. And ultimately, all a baby really needs is you, some baby grows and milk!

So, if you’re feeling the same, here’s a round up of items I thought were worth the money, and some that I wouldn’t buy again (not that we’re planning more kids!).

Baby buys I thought WERE worth the money

  • Travel system: We went for this travel system, which was a lot cheaper than most of the others. I was nervous it wouldn’t be any good but we loved it!

  • Breast pads: These were the only breast pads I got on well with - not the cheapest but worth it for me!

  • Bottles: We tried ALOT of bottles to try and get my baby to accept an expressed milk bottle. These were the only ones he’d have. I love that you could sterilise them in the microwave - no need to invest in an expensive steriliser or find somewhere for it to live.

Baby buys I WOULDN’T buy again

Mamaroo: We spent £200 on this rocking baby chair thinking it would solve all of our sleep issues. It didn’t.

Rocking chair: The arms were way to high for breastfeeding so I ended up never using it

Next2me cot: This turned out to be a very expensive bedside table! There was no way my Velcro baby could be this far away from me!

Moses basket: Why do they tell us that they need another bed they’ll never sleep in and one they’ll grow out of in three months?!

Let me know in the comments what you rated or wasted your money on as a new parent.
